Straddling the Continental divide at 1440 meters (4662 feet above sea level), the Santa Elena and Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the most fascinating areas in Costa Rica to explore. In this unique forest there are more than 100 species of mammals, including 5 species of large cats. Over 400 species of birds, with 30 different kinds of hummingbirds alone finding Monteverde home. Tens of thousands of insect species live there, including over 5000 types of colorful moths. More than 2500 species of plants including well over 400 different varieties of orchids breathe and flower in Monteverde. With 24 kilometers of well-maintained trails and a Canopy Tour, this reserve has been acclaimed as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges in the whole New World Tropics.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Tour - 3 Days 2 Nights

A fun and easy three day and two night tour into this unique environment is always a favorite with tourists in Costa Rica.

Day 1: After a scenic drive through the Central Valley, guests will arrive at Hotel Poco a Poco for lunch. After lunch a guided tour to the Butterfly Farm. Witness a good sample of the colorful variety of these insects abounding in the rainforest

Day 2: Early in the morning, just after breakfast, Monteverde's main attraction awaits you. A half day guided tour in Costa Rica's most famous private cloud forest reserve. Exuberant vegetation, incredible variety of birds (including the famous quetzal), reptiles, amphibians, etc. The afternoon is open for you to rest or explore the area on your own or take an optional tour. In the early evening after dinner you will go on a guided tour to the frog pond. This is the best time of the day to view these elusive inhabitants of the cloud forest.

Day 3: After breakfast you will have a guided tour of the Orchid Gardens. Cloud forests are famous for the great diversity of orchids and bromeliads they possess. After this tour you will have a very scenic four hour ride back to San Jose.

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Tour departs the hotel on Day 1 at 8:00 a.m. and returns back to the hotel on Day 3 at 1:00 p.m.. This tour includes the following: All transportation, all meals, lodging, bilingual guide and admission fees to the different visited places. Minimum participants is four.
