The Cariari
Hotel
. . .
is
near the Juan Santamaria
International Airport and only 15 minutes from San Jose. Their 18 hole, Par 71, Championship golf course
is a private country club and only available for play to its
small membership, although there are always rumors that guests
from certain hotels manage to get tee times for this course.
No harm in asking at your hotel. |

A PRIVATE 'MEMBER ONLY' COUNTRY
CLUB
Costa Rica is proud of this Championship golf course
which was designed by George Fazio and built by his famous nephew, Tom
Fazio in the early 1970's. This well-manicured
course was the first and
only 18 hole golf course in all of Central America for nearly two decades.
Unfortunately, this golf course is now completely private and
NOT available for play to the general public and tourists. |
|
Once a
large coffee plantation in the very heart of the Central Valley, the Cariari was converted into a golf course
after much imagination and desire to have a complete championship golfing facility
here in Costa Rica. The well-thought out landscaping of this course is as
impressive, as it is beautiful with tree-lined, rolling fairways
being the norm on this course.

The Cariari has been the site of large golfing events
such as the Central and South American Open, co-sponsored by the U.S.
Professional Golfer's Association, and the Friendship Tournament.
In the past, these events attracted outstanding players like Chi-Chi Rodriquez, Tom Weiskof, Larry Ziegler, Raymond Floyd, Peter Jacobsen, David Graham, Curtis Strange, and many more.
Although the site for local
tournaments is now shared with the other 18 hole courses around
the country, the Cariari still gets its share of local
tournaments. |
|
The Melia Cariari Golf Course in Costa Rica has also hosted
many amateur tournaments as
well, featuring the best players from the Americas, the Caribbean and
Europe.
